A Goodbye to FM19 and my FM20 Save Reveal

Well hello there. That’s right the man formerly known as NewgenFM is back!

No no don’t stop reading just yet! I’ve been on a nice little hiatus for a few months, which I will discuss more further into this post. But all you need to know for now is I’M BACK.

This post is going to talk a little bit about my FM19 year and then I will be telling you about my FM20 plans, the save and which club I will be starting with (although if you want a TL:DR just look at the featured image on the blog!)

Enjoy!

GOODBYE FM19

FM19 for me has been interesting, after the amazing save I had over the whole of FM18 I knew it would be hard to follow it and it has proved tough at times.

My Achievement Hunter save has been the one I’ve continued for the majority of the year, it’s had it’s stops and starts but overall it’s been incredible. The blog started well but with me playing so quickly I felt I was writing more than playing and with that dragging my enjoyment down. Whether that was the right choice is still up for debate!

I then had an issue with Achievement Hunter V1 where adding/removing leagues was causing issues with player numbers which in turn made my laptop slow down to a snails pace, this meant starting a “V2” of the same challenge which I tweeted about for a while.

I managed in the end to complete 44 of the 45 achievements set, only failing with the “10 without conceding”.

As you see above it was an amazing save, it exceeded all my expectations. After deciding to end the save I flitted about in lots of other saves. One started on the blog but I really didn’t have the feel for it and decided to stop before losing the love completely.

After numerous other failed saves I came back to the Achievement Hunter save and decided to carry on, firstly as ex-Lodz player Dawid Broniarek which I played offline and secondly as the 52 year old Ben Chilwell which I have had loads of fun Tweeting about.

The game itself has been brilliant, the new additions have added so much to it and made it much more immersive than previous versions. I have such high hopes for the next instalment, hoping for a much better ME!!!

Which brings me nicely onto my FM20 plans!

HELLO FM20

With regards to how I produce content for FM20 I’ve been contemplating what to do for a good few months now. I have been toying with the idea of Tweeting like I did in the “Chilwell Save” but I’ve also been considering coming back to blogging.

Its been a really tough choice. My instinct is always to blog, its much better in getting the save across to people and is a lot easier for people to follow, but on the other-hand I love the Tweeting, the interaction can be low but it’s so much less time-consuming Tweeting as you play than having to stop and blog. My issue with Tweeting is I find people get bored quickly and with the way threads and timelines work people can easily miss an important update and also struggle to catch up.

So after some deliberation and chat with some close FM friends I’ve decided to bring the blog back! Yes I know some of you will be thinking “not again, he will just quit after a few months!”, so I want to put your mind at rest. I am fully commited to doing this. I wouldn’t return after so many failed attempts if I wasn’t determined to make this a success. I have a good group of FM friends behind me helping me along and am incredibly settled in my home and work life and also in my FM life, something which I haven’t had for a while.

So I WILL make this work. I WILL continue, the only way I will stop is if I’m either dead or unable to type!!!!!

Anyway enough of the over-dramatics!! Lets have a look at what I am going to be doing on FM20.

The past few versions I’ve created a completely original challenge idea but this year I’ve decided to bring back my FM19 idea!

The Achievement Hunter 2020

Yes that’s right the Achievement Hunter is returning. I’ve made some small tweaks to it, mainly to satisfy myself and how I see my save panning out.

So here for your perusal are this years achievements:

All in all there are 46 achievements, the one’s in capitals are the new ones, there are 15 of them.

As you can see above some of the achievements have little orange triangles next to them, these are notes so people with the spreadsheet link can easily see what needs to be achieved to gain each achievement. So here is the link for everyone to look at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B90C2-4SoSsmb12duQ56FycNHmuigsQwU8NhiRRbZDQ/edit?usp=sharing

The spreadsheet contains more than just the achievements which I’ll come onto in a moment.

I’ve removed some of the more pointless achievements and added some suggestions made to me and also some I feel will add more to the save I have planned. My main aim is to travel the world and win the 5 Continental Champions Leagues (The Pentagon Challenge).

Now for the second part of my save. My good friend @parkin90 (Alex) did a fantastic challenge as part of his FC Europa save in FM19 and I’ve decided to take the plunge.

The idea is, over the whole save to have a player from every UEFA Nation do the following 2 things:

  • Score a goal
  • Get Player of the Match

A big challenge but with me expecting to play 30+ seasons it’s something easily achievable.

Obviously I’m travelling the whole world and had thought about doing the above for every FIFA Nation but decided to keep it as just Europe and I feel it would be near-on impossible to do, especially with so many really small nations which I wouldn’t be able to find a decent enough player.

As you will see if you click the spreadsheet link the above is also included.

So there you have it, that’s the whole idea of the save. It’s going to be crazy hard but I’ve shown this year, with the speed I play I can complete it.

The Club Reveal

I had considered starting unemployed but I feel everyone who does this always seems to start at the same few clubs. So I’ve decided to pick a team to start as.

I wanted to follow my same concept I did on FM18 where I picked Swiss side FC Sion as my starting team, something which worked out fantastically.

I wanted a team in Europe that starts in the Qualifying rounds of either the Champions League or the Europa League, preferably where I hadn’t managed before and also a club that hadn’t won anything (or hardly anything).

So here we go, TheNorthman will be happy as I’m off to……NORWAY!

FK Haugesund logo2018.png

And here’s a little bit from Wikikpedia

Fotballklubben Haugesund is a Norwegian football club from the city of Haugesund. The club currently plays in Eliteserien, the first tier in the Norwegian football league system. It was founded on October 28, 1993, after a merger between the football clubs Djerv 1919 and SK Haugar.

The club’s home matches are played at the 8,754-capacity Haugesund Stadion.

A relatively new team after their merger 26 years ago. They have won no top flights trophies with only one cup final to their name way back in 2007 where they lost 2-0 to Lillestrom. They have been in the top tier of Norway since 2010.

They have also played in the Europa League three times, 2014, 2017 and 2019 where the furthest they have got to is the 3rd Qualifying Round, which is actually the season we are currently in where they lost to PSV Eindhoven.

For me it’s something completely new, I’ve never played in Norway and after reading about Haugesund it intrigued me, it’s a tough league to be in with the likes of Rosenborg, Molde, Odd to name a few.

The one thing I’m not sure of until starting the game is whether they will be in Europe. As the Norwegian leagues start in March I will be loading the game up to start in early 2020. This will technically mean Haugesund will have already started their current Europa League campaign many months ago and will be more than likely be out. I don’t know if they will get put into the Europa League for the season after so we shall see!

My plan is to stay at Haugesund and complete the “10 season” achievement, hoping in that time I can win the league, cup and maybe even the champions league! Only time will tell how easy that is! After that I’ll be wanting to travel the world, visiting some nations I’ve not played in before and getting those achievements as quick as possible.

So there you have it. This should be really good fun. I hope everyone follows along and enjoys the ride. I will be reverting to my previous blog updates where I will write a post at the end of each season. It’s the best way for me to do it as I do play quite quickly. Keep an eye out on my Twitter for when the posts come out or drop the blog a follow so you get an E-Mail notification when I release a post.

Anyway thanks for reading.

Over and out Lutterworth Fox (Steve)
